Shrimp and Grits

Ingredients

  • 1 cup stoneground grits
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 pounds shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/3 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning

Directions

  • Step 1:

    Cook grits according to package directions. You will need enough to make 4 cups cooked grits.

  • Step 2:

    Meanwhile, cook sausage in a large skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently. Cook until the sausage easily crumbles and is no longer pink (approximately 5 – 10 minutes).

  • Step 3:

    Add the onion and garlic and cook an additional 5 minutes (until onions are translucent).

  • Step 4:

    Add the shrimp and cook until pink (approximately 8 – 10 minutes).

  • Step 5:

    Sprinkle flour on shrimp-sausage mixture and stir. Add beef broth and 1 cup of water and stir until thickened (approximately 5 minutes).

  • Step 6:

    Add Worcestershire sauce and the Cajun seasoning. Stir until combined.

  • Step 7:

    Spoon grits into 4 bowls, top with shrimp – sausage mixture.
